Off-Broadway News Hansol Jung's Wolf Play Extends at Soho Rep

Two new post-show events have also been announced.

Hansol Jung

With Ma-Yi Theater Company, Soho Rep has extended the New York premiere of Hansol Jung's Wolf Play to March 20. It had previously been scheduled to run through March 6. The show began previews February 2 and officially opens February 14.

With the additional two weeks comes two post-show events. For March 12, Soho Rep has programmed Queer Women, Trans Men, and Non-Binary Folk Affinity Night, a special performance of Wolf Play hosted by the playwright. The show will be followed by a conversation with Jung and other special guests. All tickets to this performance are $35.

March 14 will feature Raja Feather Kelly and Cheo Bourne in An Evening with The Great Gay [Black] Dadcast. Co-hosts of their podcast with the same name, Kelly and Bourne will talk live and in-person about their experiences starting families as Black gay men. The two provide their stories as guidance and a resource for non-traditional family-building.

These events highlight themes at the heart of the play. The new work follows a young South Korean boy, represented onstage as a puppet, being "re-homed" over an online chat room with two new, queer parents who take on the project of parenting and creating a family. The work was inspired by a series of articles Jung read about Americans using social media and other sites to "re-home" unwanted children.

The cast features Esco Jouléy as Ash, Brandon Mendez Homer as Ryan, Aubie Merrylees as Peter, Nicole Villamil as Robin, and Mitchell Winter as Wolf.

The creative team includes director Dustin Willis, scenic designer You-Shin Chen, costume designer Enver Chakartash, lighting designer Barbara Samuels, sound designer Kate Marvin, puppet designer Amanda Villalobos, puppet coach Lake Simons, fight director J. David Brimmer, and fight choreographer Hannah Roccisano. A. K. Howard is serving as stage manager alongside assistant stage manager Eliza Anastasio.
