SpongeBob star Ethan Slater will lead a benefit staged reading of Joshua Harmon's play Significant Other at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan this month. The reading, directed by Daniella Caggiano, will take place January 31 at 7 PM, with all proceeds benefiting Out at the J, the JCC's LGBTQIA program.
Slater will play the central role of Jordan Berman, played on Broadway by Gideon Glick. The cast will also include Midori Francis, recently seen in Ming Peiffer's Usual Girls, as Laura, Latoya Edwards (School Girls; or, the African Mean Girls Play, Miss You Like Hell) as Vanessa, Cathryn Wake (Hello Girls, Great Comet) as Kiki, Kathryn Kates (Orange is the New Black, Friends From College) as Helene, and Isaac Powell (Once on this Island) as Zach/Evan/Roger. The role of Will/Conrad/Tony will be cast at a later date.
Significant Other follows Jordan, a gay, single 20-something New Yorker whose bond with his once-inseparable group of friends begins to fracture as the women in his life get married. The play debuted on Broadway in March 2017 following an extended, sold-out Off-Broadway run at Roundabout Theatre Company’s Laura Pels Theatre.
