News Casting Announced for Signature Premiere of Sam Shepard's A Particle of Dread The Signature Theatre has announced casting for the United States premiere of A Particle Of Dread (Oedipus Variations), a new take on the classic Greek tragedy exploring destiny and fate, by award-winning Playwright-in-Residence Sam Shepard.

Performances will begin Nov. 11 prior to an official opening Nov. 23. The limited run will continue through Dec. 21 at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Nancy Meckler will direct.

Joining the previously announced Stephen Rea, who will play the canonical central role, are Tony Award winner Brid Brennan (Dancing at Lughnasa) as Jocasta/Jocelyn, Lloyd Hutchinson (Anonymous) as Uncle Del/Traveler/Tiresias/Maniac of the Outskirts, Jason Kolotouros (Her Majesty the Kinh) as Harrington, Matthew Rauch (The Merchant of Venice, "The Wolf of Wall Street") as Randolph, Aidan Redmond (The Cripple of Inishmaan) as Laius /Larry/Langos and Judith Roddy (“The Fall”) as Antigone/Annalee.

"This dark, fragmented, modern-day take on Oedipus Rex premiered in Derry, Ireland, and features a cast of actors from both sides of the Atlantic," press notes state.

Shepard, who was the Signature's 1996-97 Playwright-in-Residence, won the 1979 Pulitzer for Buried Child, and his works also include Operation Sidewinder and True West.

The design team includes Frank Conway (scenic design), Lorna Marie Mugan (costume design), Michael Chybowski (lighting design), Jill BC Du Boff (sound design), Neil Martin (composer) and Kate Wilson (dialect coach). Amanda Michaels is the production stage manager. Casting is by Telsey + Company, William Cantler, CSA. Tickets are available for purchase beginning Oct. 15.

The Pershing Square Signature Center is located at 480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Aves.

All tickets for the initial run of the production are $25 as part of the Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access.
