News Casting Announced for New Production of The Cherry Orchard at London's Young Vic Casting has been announced for a new production of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard that will begin performances Oct. 10 at London's Young Vic Theatre, prior to an official opening Oct. 16, for a run through Nov. 29.

Katie Mitchell, who has previously directed Uncle Vanya at he Young Vic and Three Sisters, Ivanov and The Seagull at the National, will direct a cast that includes Kate Duchêne, Dominic Rowan, Angus Wright, Gawn Grainger and Paul Hilton. The tragicomedy will be performed in a new English-language version by Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens.

Duchêne, who plays Lyubov Ranevskaya, has previously worked with Mitchell on Hansel and Gretel, A Woman Killed With Kindness, Beauty and the Beast, Women of Troy, Attempts on Her Life, Waves and Iphigenia at Aulis (all at the National Theatre).

Rowan, who plays Alexander Lopakhin, has previously appeared at the Young Vic in Mitchell's production of After Dido in 2009 (co-produced with English National Opera) and in Carrie Cracknell's production of A Doll's House that subsequently transferred to the West End and BAM.

Wright, who plays Gaev, last appeared at the Young Vic in Mitchell's The Cat in the Hat, and he has also worked with her in productions of Wastwater (Royal Court) and The Seagull, Dream Play, Three Sisters and The Dybbuk (all at the National Theatre). He was recently seen in the all-male double bill of Twelfth Night and Richard III that transferred to Broadway after London seasons at Shakespeare's Globe and in the West End.

Grainger, who plays Firs, has appeared in 20 productions at the National, including Mitchell's productions of A Woman Killed with Kindness and ...some trace of her. Hilton, who plays Peter Trofimov, last appeared at the Young Vic in David Lan’s production of The Daughter in Law. He has previously worked with Mitchell on Three Sisters at the National. 

The cast also includes Natalie Klamar (Varya), Sarah Malin (Charlotte Ivanovna), Tom Mothersdale (Yasha), Sarah Ridgeway (Dunyasha), Hugh Skinner (Yepihodov) and Catrin Stewart (Anya).

The production will have designs by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by James Farncombe, sound by Gareth Fry, movement by Joseph Alford, costumes by Sussie Juhlin-Wallén and casting by Wendy Spon CDG.
