Colin Hanlon, who starred in the original Off-Broadway production of I Love You Because in 2006, will direct a new version of the musical that now features a queer twist.
Ryan Cunningham and Joshua Salzman, the original writing team, have revamped the musical, which will be presented August 25–26 at 7 PM at The Green Room 42. A livestream option is also available.
The cast will feature Mark Bacon as Austin Bennet, Cal Mitchell as Marty Fitzwilliams, Deven Kolluri as Jeff Bennet, Ally Bonino as Diana Bingley, Nicole Zelka as NYC Person 1, and Coleman Cummings as NYC Person 2.
I Love You Because follows Austin Bennet, an aspiring greeting card writer, whose orderly world is upended by Marty Fitzwilliams (Marcy Fitzwilliams in the original), a free-spirited photographer.
I Love You Because opened at the Village Theatre February 14, 2006. The musical played 30 previews and 111 regular before closing
