Playwright Tom Stoppard's absurdist comedic masterpiece Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is set to be revived in Canada in 2024, and one of Hollywood's favorite duos is set to star.

Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, who leapt to prominence as Merry and Pippin in the Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in the 2000s, will reunite as the title characters. The new production will premiere at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax, Canada, January 30–February 25, 2024, before traveling to Toronto for an encore engagement at the CAA Theatre March 5–24, 2024.

Directed by Jeremy Webb, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead will star Boyd as Guildenstern, Monaghan as Rosencrantz, Michael Blake as The Player, Walter Borden as Polonius, Pasha Ebrahimi as Hamlet, Raquel Duffy as Tragedian and Gertrude, Drew Douris-O'Hara as Tragedian and Alfred, Jacob Sampson as Tragedian and Laertes, Mallory Amirault as Tragedian and Ambassador, Santiago Guzman as Tragedian and Horatio, Helen Belay as Tragedian and Ophelia, Jonathan Ellul as Tragedian and Claudius, and Erin Tancock as Tragedian and Fortinbras.

The rehearsal room is one of the greatest places in the world to be fully immersed in the creative process,” said Boyd. “Especially with an amazing play like this one and to have the chance to spend the day with so many creative minds, the cast, and the director. I’m very excited!”

The creative team for Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead will consist of costume designer Kaelen MacDonald, lighting designer Leigh Ann Vardy, set designer Andrew Cull, movement director Angela Gasparetto, sound designer and original music composer Deanna Choi, fight director Karen Bassett, stage manager Robin Munro, assistant stage manager Anna Spencer, and assistant stage manager Rachel Dawn Woods.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, which started at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, was a runaway hit from the start, transferring to the Old Vic in London and then to Broadway, where it won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1968. While it remains a favorite on the regional theatre circuit, it has never been revived on Broadway.
