Be More Chill and What the Constitution Means to Me

Be More Chill, What the Constitution Means to Me, Girl from the North Country, and Teenage Dick are among the 2019 nominees for the annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards. Now in its ninth year, the awards, presented by the Off Broadway Alliance, honor commercial and not-for-profit productions that opened beyond the Main Stem.

Three of the nominated productions have transferred to Broadway since their Off-Broadway bows: the aforementioned Be More Chill, and What the Constitution Means to Me, as well as Oklahoma!. Each are also nominated for Tony Awards.

Awards will be presented in seven competitive categories: Best New Musical, Best New Play, Best Musical Revival, Best Play Revival, Best Unique Theatrical Experience, Best Solo Performance, and Best Family Show.

Winners will be announced on May 22, and the awards ceremony will take place on June 18 at Sardi's.

In addition to the competitive awards, Rita Gardner, Albert Poland, and Avenue Q will be presented with Legend of Off Broadway Awards. Alvin Epstein, Maria Irene Fornes, and Ntozake Shange will be posthumously honored with induction into the Off Broadway Hall of Fame; and the Friend of Off Broadway Award will be presented to Frank “Fraver” Verlizzo for his graphic design work.
