A Look at The Bacchae at the Classical Theatre of Harlem

The Classical Theatre of Harlem’s free outdoor production of The Bacchae continues its run at Marcus Garvey Park after opening July 11. The new version of the Euripides tragedy, adapted by Bryan Doerries, is scheduled to play through July 28.

According to production notes, The Bacchae tells the story of Dionysus (God of wine and ecstasy) who “returns to his hometown in order to clear his mother’s name and punish the insolent city for not allowing its citizens to worship him.”
