The weather is warming up, which means it's time to find out what will play at Off-Broadway's 59E59 Theaters this summer. Kicking off the programming will be the annual East to Edinburgh Festival which runs in Theater C July 11-30 ahead of Scotland's Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
East to Edinburgh gives productions headed to the annual Scottish festival (which offers over 3,000 productions from around the world) a chance to do a short preview run and raise money prior to crossing the pond for their Fringe runs. Following East to Edinburgh, the lineup will be as follows in Theater A: Sam Wright and Nicholas Collett's Prejudice and Pride (July 13-August 20) and Theresa Rebeck's Dig (September 2-October 22). Playing in Theater B will be Charles White's Unentitled(July 21-August 6), Robert Montano's SMALL (August 12-September 2) and Allan and Pat Harris' Cross That River (September 13-October 8). Lastly, Theater C will see stagings of Brendan George's A Eulogy for Roman (August 8-27), Ahsan Ali and Lisa Jill Anderson's Friends with Amenities (September 14-30), and The Pool Plays 3.0 (October 8-28). As part of the Makers Series, The Pool Plays 3.0 will consist of Jessica Charles' Antiquated F*ckery, Andrea Stolowitz's The Berlin Diaries, and Naren Weiss' Two Brown Porters.
Full casting and creative teams for the productions will be announced at a later date.
“This trust in and collaboration with indie theatre makers who are known for producing thought-provoking work has increased our ability to present wider scope of work. I'm always looking for surprises, humor, or something that tells a story in ways that I've never seen before, and this season gives us exactly that," said Artistic Director Val Day.
