Every day this December, Playbill will be getting into the spirit of the season with 31 Days of Holiday Cheer—sharing some of our favorite music videos from Broadway stars. Check in daily for classic tunes and new songs about Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's. And we even have some surprise new, original Playbill videos to share.
Before comedy songstress Rachel Bloom hit it big in Hollywood with the television musical series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, she was writing tunes and sketch comedy in New York. In the song "Chanukah Honey," Bloom parodies the Eartha Kitt flirty holiday favorite "Santa Baby." Check it out in the video above. (Warning: In true Rachel Bloom fashion, she does get a bit dirty at the end. Here's her "clean version you can forward to your mother.")
"Chanukah Honey" appeared on the 2013 comedy album Suck It, Christmas, written by Bloom with her frequent collaborator Jack Dolgen and her husband Dan Gregor.
Bloom can currently be seen through January 6 at Off-Broadway's Orpheum Theatre with her stand-up musical Death, Let Me Do My Show. In it, she tries to sing and dance her way around the events of 2020, but Death shows up. Playbill chatted with Bloom about grief and the shame that often surrounds it during the show's sold-out premiere run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in September. Read that interview here.
