Awards 2022 Tony Nominee Kara Young Wins Lilly Award; See the Full Winners List

Founded in 2010, the Awards honor, support, and advocate for women in American theatre through promotion of gender and racial parity

The winners of the 2022 Lilly Awards have been revealed. 2022 Tony nominee Kara Young has received the Stacey Mindich Go Work in Theater Award, alongside fellow actors Liza Jessie Peterson, April Mathis, and Laiona Michelle. They are joined by K. Hernandez Friend, Moxie Arts Artistic Director & Creative Producer, and Madelyn Paquette, Moxie Arts Managing Producer. Each winner receives $5,000 with the honor.

Mei Ann Teo is the first recipient and winner of the Lily Fan Director Award, which includes $25,000. Also winning $25,000 are Imani Uzuri for the Stacy Mindich Go Write a Musical Award and Zora Howard for the Stacey Mindich Go Write a Play Award. 

The Miss Lilly was awarded jointly to winners Brian Blythe and John Kristiansen for creating the Costume Industry Coalition. The organization, founded during the pandemic, supports the many individuals whose work in the theatre industry is often unrecognized.

Stacey Mindich, a Lilly Board member and producer, was also presented with an honorary Lilly Award for her support of women in theatre. Mindich has also provided the funding for the previously announced awards.

The Lillys, which began in 2010, honor, support, and advocate for women in American theatre through promotion of gender and racial parity. The Lillys include president Marsha Norman; executive director Julia Jordan; treasurer Lily Fan; secretary Janice Maffei; board members Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Valerie Curtis Newton, Amanda GreenMandy Greenfield, Dana Muldrow, Kate Navin, Lynn Nottage, Rita Pietropinto Kitt, Sarah Ruhl, Robert Schenkkan, and Julie Unis; and Jane Abramson, Antonia Belt, and Rebekah Carver.
