Thomas Sweitzer's play with music 20 Seconds will make its New York premiere this fall at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The six-week engagement will begin previews September 10 prior to an official opening September 21, continuing through October 21.
Jeremy Scott Blaustein directs and develops the solo play, which won Best Solo Performance at the 2022 Capital Fringe Festival.
Sweitzer grew up in 1970s blue-collar Pennsylvania, where his Italian mother's meatballs could cure all ailments, and his father's schizophrenia and alcoholism were fuel to a raging fire. One day, Tom ran out of the house and into the church across the street, and he met a woman who gave him a gift that would alter the course of his life: music.
The upcoming production will also feature scenic design by Lindsay Fuori, costume design by Emilee McVey-Lee, lighting design by Jamie Roderick, and sound design by Bill Toles, who is also the production manager. Melissa Erikson serves as production supervisor, and Aaron Grant Theatrical serves as general manager.
20 Seconds is produced by A Place to Be, Mrs. Jacqueline B. Mars, Teresa Wheeler, Milton Sender, Ben & K.C. Graham, with Barbara Schaufeld, and Shannon & Jim Davis. Aaron Grant serves as executive producer. Associate producers include Lysa and Carl Hutton, Mark Ohrstrom, Alice Rogoff Rubenstein, Dr. Gary and Tina Mather, Greenway Manor, Drs.
