The Candler Theatre opened at 226 W. 42nd Street in 1914. Renamed the Sam H. Harris Theatre, the venue housed Arthur Hopkins’ famous production of Hamlet starring John Barrymore. The Candler Theatre was gutted and demolished, as the Harris Theatre, in 1996.
