American Jade (Regional, Bucks County Playhouse, 2022) | Playbill

American Jade

Regional
Solo

SYNOPSIS:

The first Asian-American to win an Emmy in any acting category, Jodi Long breaks barriers even as she follows in her family’s well-worn footsteps. Jodi’s Chinese-Australian, tap-dancing father and Japanese American mother were a popular nightclub act on the Chop Suey Circuit in the 1940s and ‘50s.

American Jade brings her entire family’s story to life — chronicling their ups and downs both on stage and off. At the center of Jodi’s journey are imprints. The ones we are born with, the emotional imprints from our family and the societal imprints that are thrust upon us, Executed with grace and zeal, this is a story of humor, passion, and perseverance against insurmountable odds and the ravages of racism.

Directed by Eric Rosen

Performed by Jodi Long
