SEEKING:

ARGAN: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. (50s-60s). The imaginary invalid of the title. A well-off gentleman who, since the loss of his wife, has become more and more a hypochondriac. Although picky, panicky, thin-skinned and solipsistic, he has a good heart. Deep down, he cares about hisdaughter's happiness even though he tries to marry her off to a doctor so he can have access to free healthcare 24 hours a day.

TOINETTE: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. (30s-50s) Argan's housekeeper. Ostensibly a servant, she runs the place. She's clear-eyed about her employer's faults, outspoken and devoted to Angelique. Funny, smart, wise-cracking and wise. A clown with a shape-shifter’s ability to assume
voices and crazy characters. Toinette is the show’s whirling female Groucho.

ANGELIQUE: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. (20s) Argan's daughter. A beautiful ingénue with a passion for her boyfriend Cléante that makes her almost ungovernable. Loves her father and finds it
impossible to stand up to him, but by the end of the play, she will. Sings well.

CLÉANTE:
(20s-30s) Angelique's boyfriend. Handsome, dopey, passionate, and kind-hearted, but he can't see what's in front of him. Cléante isn’t very bright, but his heart is in the right place. A hero in his own mind. Sings well.

THREE DOCTORS: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. 1. DOCTOR PURGON (40s-60s) Gruff, deadpan, matter of fact. No bedside manner whatsoever. He enters, he barks out a prescription, he leaves. He's a busy man. 2. MONSIEUR FLEURANT (40s-60s) The man who comes to perform evacuations on Monsieur Argan. A driven, technocratic automaton whose sole desire is to administer an enema on time and with great vigor. 3. DR. DIAFOROUS (40s-60s) An oily operator, socialclimbing, avaricious, smarmy, gifted at passing the buck. In denial about his idiot son.

BÉLINE: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. (30s) Argan's wife. Beautiful, charming, elegant, sleek. The perfect trophy wife if the trophy is a complete sociopath. She married Argan for his money and is hoping he dies very, very soon. She's having an affair with the lawyer, Monsieur De Bonnefoi, so we
occasionally see a shuddering passion behind her cool, pearl and diving neckline façade.

MONSIEUR DE BONNEFOI: THIS ROLE IS ALREADY CAST. (30s-40s) A lawyer, handsome, silky, smarmy, a schemer. He is Béline's lover and is doing everything he can to make sure she inherits everything when Monsieur Argan dies. A dapper, larcenous gigolo.
