JERRY LUKOWSKI: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) An unemployed mill worker. 30-40. Jerry is a complex emotional character with serious heart and charisma, and genuine tenderness for his son – a regular guy. Vocal Range: Rock Tenor, with a strong controlled falsetto.

DAVE BUKATINSKY: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) An unemployed steel worker. 30-40. He struggles with unemployment and its effect on his marriage. A lovable, good-natured soul, with body weight and self-esteem issues. Must be comfortable enough with your belly to proudly wield it in all its glory--it is a key component of the character. Vocal Range: Lyric Tenor with strong falsetto.

NOAH "HORSE" T. SIMMONS: (male presenting, African American) A retired African American mill worker. 50+. Gentle demeanor. Seemingly, his “break-dancing” days are over until he breaks out.
Excellent mover with great dead-pan comedy. Used to have a good physique back in the day, but now. . . Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor.

HAROLD NICHOLS: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity): An unemployed mill supervisor. 35-60. He is a doting, prideful husband who is determined to keep his wife be-decked in upper middle class luxury – in spite of 6 months of unemployment. Aloof at first, his dance skills are what finally, and
arduously, brings “Hot Metal” alive. Vocal Range: High baritone/tenor.

GEORGIE BUKATINSKY: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) Dave's wife. 30-40. A warm, downto- earth soul that isn't afraid to kick up her heels. Her exuberance opens the show and sets the place and mood perfectly! Her reality comes in dealing with her hubby's struggles and trying to hold her
marriage together. Vocal Range: High alto/broad mezzo belter.

MALCOLM MCGREGOR: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s-30s. An unemployed mill worker. Lives at home with his mother. Depressed, suicidal, awkward and feeble. Pigeon-chested. Finds comfort in Ethan.

ETHAN GIRARD: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s-30s. An unemployed mill worker. Lonely.

JEANETTE BURMEISTER: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 60s-70s. A piano player of indeterminate years and show-business pro. Sassy, quick-witted, and larger than life. Has slowed down in recent years.

PAM LUKOWSKI: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s-30s. Jerry’s estranged wife and high school sweetheart. She wants what is best for her son. Strong businesswoman, but also compassionate and motherly.

VICKY NICHOLS: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30s-40s. Harold’s wife. She enjoys the finer things in life. Loves her husband more than anything and supports him no matter what.

NATHAN LUKOWSKI: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 10-14. Jerry’s young son who is 12 years old going on forty. Nathan is a key player who does a lot of witnessing.

TEDDY SLAUGHTER: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity). 30s-40s. Pam’s finance. Opposite of Jerry – clean cut, well-off.

BUDDY “Keno” WALSH: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity). 20-30. Handsome and experienced gay male stripper.

FEMALE PRESENTING ENSEMBLE: (any race/ethnicity) to play roles of Estelle, Susan, Joanie, Dolores, Molly. Strong singers/dancers.

The Monster: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) Age indeterminate, A big man, the bigger the better. The misunderstood creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Vocal range Ab one octave below middle C to F above middle C. Able to emit howling/monster/grunting sounds. Knowledge of tap dancing is a plus
but not vital.

Igor: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity, 20-30) Faithful, bright-eyed, eager servant, great comic timing, good movement skills. Vocal range D below middle C to F above middle C.

Inga: (female presenting, any race, ethnicity, 20-30s) Bubbly, sexy, willing assistant. Resident of Transylvania, talks with accent, Vocal range G# below middle C to A above treble staff. Yodeling a plus.

Elizabeth Benning: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity, 20-30) deliciously self-absorbed fiancé of Frederick, whom she later deserts for the physical abundance of the Monster. Over the top. Great comedic timing. Good belt. Vocal range, F# below middle C to F# top line of treble staff.

Frau Blucher: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity, 40-50s) Intense, stern housekeeper of the estate and former love of Dr. Frankenstein. Excellent comedic timing, belt voice. Vocal Range F#
below middle C to B, third line of treble staff.

Inspector Hans Kemp: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30-50s. Head of the police in Transylvania. Justice-driven. A one octave below middle C to F above middle C.

Blind Hermit: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) age indeterminate – Lonely, poor, blind town
hermit longing for a friend. Vocal range: Bb one octave below middle C to Db just above middle C.

Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) age indeterminate. Frederick’s infamous grandfather. Vocal range: C# below middle C to G# above middle C.

Ziggy: (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, 20s-30s). Well-intentioned village idiot. Vocal range: F below middle C to F above middle C.

Ensemble: 20s-40s Male and Female presenting, any race/ethnicity) Will portray gravediggers, villagers, passengers, mad scientists and various supporting roles. Strong dancers/singers. Tap Dancing required.

SEEKING:

JOSEPH PULITZER: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 40s-50s. The boisterous forefather of Wm.F. Buckley Jr, Glenn Beck and Rupert Murdoch. An on point, know it all, politician. Impolite and impatient with the world. Sings well.

MEDDA: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30s – 50s, any ethnicity. A vaudeville star of the Bowery variety. Risque, tough, with a big voice and GREAT comic delivery.

ROOSEVELT: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 40s-60s. The governor of New York. Roosevelt supports the Newsies by standing up against Pulitzer.

WIESEL: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30s-40s. The thuggish, uncompassionate paper distributor, who runs the distribution window for The World.

SNYDER: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30s-50s. A real low-down crook, runs The Refuge (the orphanage for boys). A spidery and sinister man.

JACK KELLY: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, The charismatic leader of the Manhattan newsies, is an orphaned dreamer and artist who yearns to get out of the crowded streets of New York and make a better life for himself out West. Fiercely protective of his best friend, Crutchie, and strongly loyal, Jack isn’t afraid to use his voice to attain better conditions for the working kids of New York City. Though living on the streets has given him a tough-guy exterior, Jack has a big heart and can demonstrate a sweet vulnerability – especially when it comes to bantering with a certain female reporter. Has a great pop tenor voice, great dance skills and sense of physicality. (Vocal RangeBb2- A4)

CRUTCHIE: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, A dedicated newsie with a bum leg that’s painful, but helps sell more papes. Though he walks with the assistance of a crutch, Crutchie doesn’t let it define him; when in a jam, Jack Kelly’s best friend relies on a goofy-sweet sense of humor and optimistic resilience. Crutchie is the heart of the resistance. Though his movement will suggest his bum leg, Crutchie will still be included in the dance numbers. (Vocal Range C3-A4)

DAVEY: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, Les’s strait-laced, bright big brother starts selling newspapers to help his family earn a living but becomes swept up in the fervor of the strike. A leader in his own right who is learning to use his voice to uplift others, Davey is the brains of the resistance. LES: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) Age 10-14, Davey’s cheeky younger brother, is inspired by

the freedom of the newsies and loves their independent lifestyle. A precocious and natural newsie,

Les is an intuitive salesboy and a pint-sized charmer. He should present as younger than the other newsies. (Vocal Range Db3-Bb3)

NEWSIES/Ensemble: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, Including Albert, Buttons, Elmer, Finch, Henry, Ike, Jo Jo, Mike, Mush, Race, Romeo, Specs, Splasher, and Tommy Boy, are some of the hard-working kids of New York City that go on strike for a livable wage. Excellent dancer/singers.

SPOT CONLON: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, The proud leader of the Brooklyn newsies, boasts an intimidating reputation and a short singing solo in “Brooklyn’s Here.” Strong singer/dancer.

KATHERINE PLUMBER: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, An ambitious young reporter, works hard to make a name for herself as a legitimate journalist in a time when women aren’t taken seriously. Quick, funny, and resourceful, she boldly captures the voice of a new generation rising in her coverage of the newsies’ strike. While she generally has no time for cocky, streetwise young men, she makes an exception for Jack Kelly. Katherine has a great contemporary pop voice with a high belt – diction is key and strong dance skills. (Vocal Range A3-F5)

HEAD OVER HEELS

GYNECIA: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30-50, Queen of Arcadia; sexy and wise; life with her husband isn't what it used to be but she still loves him and knows how to deal with him; strong singer and proficient with classical text.

BASILIUS: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 30-50, King of Arcadia; sexy; a hothead but not a despot; wants to do the right thing but ego gets in the way; blindly thinks all is well in Arcadia; strong singer and proficient with classical text.

DAMETAS: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 45-60, Prime Minister of Arcadia; wise and patient; loyal to Basilius; a widower who still harbors sorrow; proficient with classical text.

PYTHIO (the Oracle): (they/them pronouns, any race/ethnicity) Age indeterminate, Powerful, mysterious, demanding. Great sense of humor–can see through everyone–they are the Oracle of Delphi, after all.

PAMELA: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, Basilius and Gynecia's older daughter. Confident and obsessed with her appearance. Known to be the most beautiful bachelorette throughout Arcadia, she does not wish to marry any male suitors. Strong singing skills and proficiency with classical text.

PHILOCLEA: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, Basilius and Gynecia's younger daughter. A modest and reserved princess, she yearns to follow her heart rather than obey her father's orders. Childhood friends with Musidorus. Strong singer and proficient with classical text.

MOPSA: (female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, Handmaiden to Pamela. Warm, skeptical. Growing up without a mother has made her wise beyond her years about everyone and everything. Strong singer and proficient with classical text.

MUSIDORUS: (male presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s, A young shepherd who courts after Philoclea. Goofy and clueless but means well. Uses she/her pronouns when in drag. Fierce tenor singer and proficient with classical text.

ENSEMBLE: (male and female presenting, any race/ethnicity) 20s. Unique charismatic individuals to inhabit the Kingdom of Arcadia. Strong dancers and singers.
