DESCRIPTION

NOTE: This position is for a Adjunct Professor who's skills are based in Musical Direction for Musical Theatre as well as accompaniment and possible band leadership dependent upon the production. It is a Semester based position and will be granted between 3un to 9un of Adjunct Faculty LAB credit. We are looking for someone who is a team player and is excited to share their expertise with a diverse student base.

The scale is dependent upon the unit load, the minimum and maximium stated is a base guess between 1-3un courses at the base leve upon hiring. If you have more years of experience, you will be brought in at an equivalent step rate.

Minimum Qualifications (see question #1 below)

· An AA +6 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Music 2+ years of professional experience OR MA/MFA/MM from an accredited institution in +2 years of professional experience.

· The ability to accompany singers on piano is required.

· Ability to sight read music and perform vocal selections is required.

Optional: Schedule or Course Information

Must be available starting January 21st, 2025 for arranged Musical Production rehearsals, M-TH 6-10pm.

Musical Theatre classes are held MW between 8:00am and 5:30pm in the Spring.

Optional: Desirable Qualifications

· The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the stylistic and technical nuances across various eras of musical theatre, including works by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Lloyd Webber, and more recent composers such as Jason Robert Brown and Lin-Manuel Miranda. They should demonstrate proficiency in working with diverse vocal styles, complex musical arrangements, and the ability to guide both seasoned performers and students through the vocal, emotional, and technical demands of each production. Experience with multi-genre, cross-cultural works and the ability to adapt musical direction to suit both traditional and innovative staging concepts is highly desirable.

· Directly related professional performance experience is desired.

· LMS experience/training (canvas)

· Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and community leaders in Theatre Arts programs and initiatives specifically designed to support historically underrepresented students in achieving their educational goals. This includes fostering partnerships with local arts organizations, creating mentorship opportunities for BIPOC and first-generation students, and developing inclusive curricula and productions that reflect diverse cultural narratives. The candidate should have a strong commitment to equity and access in the arts, ensuring that underrepresented students are provided with the resources, guidance, and opportunities needed to succeed academically and professionally.

If hired the professor:

1. May musically direct 1-2 productions per year in the Theatre Arts Department and may be utilized in the music department as needed.

2. May accompany voice classes; performs the piano parts to vocal selections at sight and is musically sensitive to instructor's and performer's needs.

3. May accompany choral ensemble classes; performs the piano parts to the ensemble selections at sight and is musically sensitive to instructor's and performer's needs.

4. May accompany students in applied instruction, recitals, and recital rehearsals; performs the piano parts to all selections at sight and is musically sensitive to instructor's and performer's needs.

5. Should practice and prepares difficult repertoire for performance with ensembles and applied students.

6. Assists students in recital rehearsals; helps prepare students to better perform musically with a piano in a public performance.

7. Assists faculty coordinator and musical theatre faculty to set schedules for mainstage productions, concert productions, recitals and recital rehearsals.

8. Work closely with program coordinator to arrange audition material.

9. Maintains a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
