It’s a Saturday 2-show day and nothing says sleeping in like a 7:30 wake-up call from a 7-year-old. I was too tired to focus.
David Beach
Still can’t focus, but it seems doubtful Sadie can be convinced to go back to sleep.
David Beach
iPad to the rescue. If weekday mornings are “no-screentime” mornings, we try to make up for lost (screen) time on the weekends.
David Beach
I try to get back to sleep, but remember I have to play a round of Words With Friends with Carolee Carmello. Sad truth: I later lost this game during the matinee.
David Beach
Not exactly an omelette, but power breakfast nonetheless. Useless trivia: my favorite mug is a Secret Santa gift from Rachel Coloff during the run of Urinetown, 15 years ago…
David Beach
Daddy Russell is up and double-checking the itinerary for the day: taking Sadie and two friends to his workplace (Lincoln Center) for a silent disco, to Chelsea Piers for a birthday party, and then meeting up with me between shows.
David Beach
They’re off!
David Beach
Thought I was running late, but then I ran into the glamorous Angie Schworer on the subway platform.
David Beach
Not trying to be anti-social, but wanted to get some reading done for this month’s Something Rotten Book Club. I asked Angie to take the photo, because I never seem to make the instagram cut @hotdudesreading.
David Beach
Make it to the theater in time and am always greeted warmly by Scott Rippe.
David Beach
Producer Kevin McCollum and I go way back, so I wasn’t surprised he agreed to my contractual demand of a dressing room stairmaster.
David Beach
In truth, more than met my demand.
David Beach
The stylish Meredith Benson is always a friendly, trend-setting face to see on a two show day.
David Beach
Farther up the stairwell I run into two of my bosses, Tony Magner (who has now put up with my antics in three Broadway shows…) and the ever youthful and completely unflappable Charlie Underhill.
David Beach
I quickly snap an out-of-focus shot of the talented Phil Reno before he can remember to give me a music note.
David Beach
Always happy to see Jack Scott, as I make my way up the steep and very narrow stairway.
David Beach
My dressing roommate- the multi-talented and inimitable Edward Hibbert always arrives before me and has a Bobby Short Pandora station playing.
David Beach
The 5th floor is about the nicest and most talented place on the BroadWAY with the extraordinary Brad Oscar and the wildly versatile Aaron Kaburick. Aaron looks as cool as a cucumber (kosher pickle?) before going on as Shylock for the first time, because the legendary Gerry Vichi stayed home to cook for his annual Super Bowl party.
David Beach
Time Warp- At Gerry’s party the next night: the food was amazing. Mary Kathryn Flint and I got to take home Gerry’s amazing sauce.
David Beach
Substitute Hair Guru Kim Shriver puts me in my wig cap.
David Beach
After knowing the brilliant Josh Marquette for a decade, it’s feels great to wear a Marquette Original.
David Beach
Still takes getting used to seeing my puritanical transformation.
David Beach
Sometimes I think I look younger in Sadie’s portrait of me that hangs on my dressing room wall.
David Beach
I also keep a FaceTime screen capture of my Mom to figure out if Josh is trying to play some type of PSYCHO trick on me.
David Beach
Brother Jeremiah!
David Beach
Even my props are puritanical.
David Beach
No matter how you spell his name, the biggest problem with replacing the irreplaceable Brooks Ashmanskas is that you don’t get to work with him…
David Beach
8 times/week Joe Hickey attempts to keep me sane.
David Beach
Right before the opening drum roll, everyone gathers at the Ye Olde Rotten Towne Square to wish each other a rotten show.
David Beach
Stage left before curtain: Tari Kelly, Christian Borle, Catherine Brunell, and Pete Drummond.
David Beach
I have 34 minutes after my first entrance to micromanage my family- the silent disco at Lincoln Center Education looked like a big hit.
David Beach
Hair Supervisor Kevin Maybee is brilliant enough to make the glamorous Angie Schworer look like an Elizabethan boy.
David Beach
When you have a voice built for amplification, always love your sound engineer. Which is easy when it’s Cassy Givens.
David Beach
When the crazy fun Terri Purcell takes a well-deserved personal day, Margo Lawless makes sure everyone knows who’s in charge. Including Lyssa Sligar.
David Beach
Courtney Iventosch doesn’t look a day over 29, even though it’s her 30th birthday weekend and she basically knows the ENTIRE show because she is one of those brilliant people born with the “swing” gene.
David Beach
She has much more to do in the show than I do, so she couldn’t stop to pose.
David Beach
John Cariani had enough of the 2-show day photo spreads after he did one last fall. He wanted no part of mine. (But seriously, the nicest guy ever…)
David Beach
An omelette station Stage Right, also known as the Jujamcyn lobby.
David Beach
Meredith Benson and Lacie Bonanni waiting to help some hard-working eggs turn into omelettes.
David Beach
I look a little crazy and it’s only the first show. I’m probably just a little tired after trying to convince the brilliant and bearded Heidi Blickenstaff to let me direct her in a one woman show about Eydie Gormé.
David Beach
First show done! The boots are off and it’s time for foam rolling.
David Beach
Friends surprised me by coming to the matinee and we went off to Joe Allen’s for dinner.
David Beach
Fresh from too much birthday cake- Sadie and Russell joined us.
David Beach
Sadie had never seen my dressing room so she made the trek upstairs. She makes a Puritan hat look fashionable.
David Beach
She gave me a few makeup tips.
David Beach
We visited Joby Horrigan in the costume shop.
David Beach
Inspected omelettes.
David Beach
Then said goodbye until later.
David Beach
Show #2!
David Beach
A little Cafe Bustelo before the show and some Japanese Whiskey to look forward to after.
David Beach
Lots more stairs.
David Beach
More (camera-shy) friends saw the evening show, so we had post-show drinks at Un Deux Trois, with the city’s most gracious host, José!
David Beach
Times Square manages to look great even when it is perpetually under construction.
David Beach
A quick trip to wish Courtney Iventosch a happy birthday at her surprise party at The Glass House Tavern.
David Beach
The long day fades out of focus again, as I kiss my sweeties goodnight and watch a little SNL. And start dreaming about the Sunday matinee.
