San Francisco's Magic Theatre will present the world premiere of John Kolvenbach’s Reel to Reel. Previews will begin January 31, 2018, at Magic Theatre’s Fort Mason location. Opening night is scheduled for February 7 at 8 PM.
Playwright Kolvenbach will direct a cast that includes Zoë Winters (currently Off-Broadway in The Last Match) and Andrew Pastides, who play the younger counterparts of Will Marchetti and Carla Spindt's Walter and Maggie.
Reel to Reel is the story of a 55-year marriage as told through the sentiments of recorded conversations, arguments, and household noises. What emerges is a collage of life captured on audio tape.
The production will also have scenic design by Erik Flatmo, sound design by Sara Huddleston, costume design by Meg Neville, and lighting design by Wen-Ling Liao.
“I have been privileged to work at the Magic for almost a decade,” said playwright-director Kolvenbach in a statement. “Reel to Reel will be my fourth collaboration with [Artistic Director] Loretta [Greco], her staff, and her audience. I am thrilled to be back.”
