Five-time Emmy winner Wayne Brady—seen on Broadway last season in the revival of The Wiz—will play Rick Braithwaite in concerts of the musical version of the 1967 film To Sir, With Love, itself inspired by Braithwaite's autobiographical novel.
Directed by Sheldon Epps, the invitation-only concert presentations will be held November 8-10 at the Garry Marshall Theatre in Burbank. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
To Sir, With Love features an original score by John Farrar and Kara DioGuardi as well as Don Black and Mark London's title song from the Sidney Poitier film. Kris Lythgoe penned the stage adaptation.
To Sir, With Love tells
the true story of Rick Braithwaite, a Cambridge-educated engineer and
former RAF fighter pilot who battles societal prejudices. Braithwaite engages his students not as
troublesome youths, but as emerging adults preparing for the challenges
of the real world.
The upcoming performances will also have music direction by Kenny Seymour, casting by Telsey + Company's Rachel Hoffman, and general management by Aaron Grant.
Lythgoe Productions is producing with Willette and Manny Klausner as co-producers.
