The Hollywood Bowl production of Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots has announced that Wayne Brady will put on his boots again to play the role of Lola. Being staged July 8-10, Jake Shears and Kelly Marie Tran have also been announced in the roles of Charlie and Lauren, respectively.

Brady has previously played Lola on Broadway twice. Also familiar with his role, Shears made his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots as Charlie. Tran is best known for her film work as the voice of Raya in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon and as Rose Tico in Star Wars. Jerry Mitchell, who directed and choreographed the original Broadway production, will handle those same duties for the summer production.

The musical follows Lola, an indefatigable drag performer, whose broken heel kickstarts an unlikely friendship with Charlie, a factory owner struggling to save his business. Based on a true story, the production will be the 21st annual LA Philharmonic/Hollywood Bowl-produced, fully staged Broadway musical mounted at the venue.

Kinky Boots, which won six Tony Awards, features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. The original Broadway company was headed by Billy Porter as Lola and featured Stark Sands as Charlie. Both Porter and Sands were Tony-nominated for their performances; Porter won the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, and Mitchell won his second career Tony Award for his choreography.

Among the many musicals presented in recent years at the Hollywood Bowl are A Chorus Line, Les Misérables, Rent, Guys and Dolls, and Hairspray.
