Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center presented a new production of Monty Python's Spamalot May 12-21 in the Eisenhower Theater. Watch highlights from the limited engagement, which was directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, in the video above.
The cast was led by Alex Brightman as Sir Lancelot, James Monroe Iglehart as King Arthur, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as Lady of the Lake, Rob McClure as The Historian/Prince Herbert, Michael Urie as Sir Robin, Jimmy Smagula as Sir Bedevere, Nik Walker as Sir Galahad, and Matthew Saldivar as Patsy. Rounding out the company in the ensemble were Phillip Attmore, Daniel Beeman, Maria Briggs, Michael Fatica, Ryan Kasprzak, Eloise Kropp, Daniel May, Shina Ann Morris, Kaylee Olson, and Kristin Piro.
The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2005, features music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle and a book and lyrics by Idle. Adapted from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical follows King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the Holy Grail, complete with coconut-shell horse hooves, shrubbery, the Knights Who Say "Ni!," and more. The original Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Rhodes' creative team included music director John Bell (Into the Woods), scenic and projection designer Paul Tate dePoo III, costume designer Jen Caprio, lighting designer Cory Pattak, sound designer Haley Parcher, and hair and wig designer Tom Watson with casting by JZ Casting.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
