Originally a choreopoem by Ntozake Shange, For Colored Girls... follows seven women as they share their stories and find strength in each other’s humor and passion through a fusion of poetry, dance, music, and song. It made its Broadway premiere at the Booth Theatre in 1976 and received a Tony nomination for Best Play.

In 2019, For Colored Girls… had an Off-Broadway revival at The Public Theater which won Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk awards. Camille A. Brown, who served as that production's choreographer, will make her Broadway directorial debut with this reimagined revival. Brown is the first Black woman to serve as both director and choreographer on a Broadway production in more than 65 years.
