November 26 would have marked music icon Tina Turner's 84th birthday. To commemorate the occasion, stars from international productions of Tina—The Tina Turner Musical joined forces for an acoustic version of one of the late Grammy winner's biggest hits, "Simply the Best."
Watch Elesha
Paul Moses and Karis Anderson (from the London production), Aisata Blackman (from the Stuttgart,
Germany, production), Ari Groover and Parris Lewis (from the North American tour), and Ruva
Ngwenya (from the Australian production) perform "Simply the Best," accompanied by Marco Gerace, in the video above.
The many productions of the hit musical are offering the video to "remember Tina’s warmth, charisma, and strength," according to a statement. "We
will also be forever thankful for her close involvement with our show;
her openness, her joy, and of course her incredible moves! Happy Birthday, Tina!"
Tina—The Tina Turner Musical recently extended its run at London's Aldwych Theatre through September 14, 2024.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, choreographed by Anthony van Laast, and written by Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the musical currently stars Karis Anderson and Elesha Paul Moses sharing the
role of Tina and Okezie Morro as Ike Turner.
Based on the life of Grammy winner Tina Turner and produced in association with Turner, Tina—The Tina Turner Musical received its world premiere in April 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre. The Broadway production opened in 2019 and played its final performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre August 14, 2022.
