Casting is now complete for the Bucks County Playhouse production of the new musical The Apple Boys, which will play the Pennsylvania venue May 2–25.
Directed by David Alpert with choreography by Marc Kimelman and music supervision by Rona Siddiqui, the cast will be led by Josh Breckenridge (Swept Away), Jelani Remy (Back to the Future the Musical), Tony nominee Emily Skeggs (Fun Home), and Teddy Yudain (Little Shop of Horrors). Completing the company are DeShawn Bowens, Rachel Kay, and John Mezzina Hannigan, who will cover the leads.
With a book by Jonothon Lyons and music and lyrics by Ben Bonnema, The Apple Boys is set in Gilded Age Coney Island as Jack Chapman III, grandson of Johnny Appleseed, rallies a colorful cast of characters—including the founder of Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs and the world’s strongest man—to save his family’s struggling apple orchard.
“One of the thrills of producing shows is happening upon a new show that takes you by surprise. Apple Boys is both inventive and genuinely funny… sending you on a roller-coaster of laughs, thrills, and all-around merriment," said Bucks County Producing Director Alexander Fraser in a statement. “We fell in love with its big heart and joyful spirit and are thrilled to bring another original new musical to our audiences.”
The creative team also includes scenic designer Adam Koch, costume designer Johanna Pan, lighting designer Rui Rita, sound designer Beth Lake, vocal arranger Matt Gallagher, and music director Sujin Kim-Ramsey. Casting is by Jason Styres.
