Video Video: See Tony Winner Lauren Patten and Seth Avett Surprise Swept Away Audiences

Audiences at the Avett Brothers musical at Broadway's Longacre were treated to two post-show performances.

Broadway's Swept Away isn't sailing quietly into the night.

The musical, which had announced a closing date of December 15, only for a surge in ticket sales to prompt a surprise extension, treated fans to a bevy of special post-show performances in what was originally intended to be its final weekend. Check out video of the performances above and below.

The first, featuring Tony winners Lauren Patten and John Gallagher Jr. (who stars in Swept Away), brought one of the Avett Brothers' most popular tunes, "Morning Song," to the quarterdeck stage. Performed by the duo acoustically, with Gallagher Jr. on guitar, the video can be seen above.

The second was a particular treat for Swept Away fans; Seth Avett, one half of the Avett Brothers band, whose music inspired the musical, joined the Broadway cast to perform both "Tear Down the House" and "Untitled #4". Avett's video can be seen below.

Featuring songs by folk-rock group The Avett Brothers and inspired by their 2004 album Mignonette, Swept Away opened its Broadway debut at the Longacre Theatre November 19 after beginning previews October 29. The musical, which features a book by John Logan and choreography by David Newmann, is directed by Michael MayerThe Broadway production is currently scheduled to play its final performance December 29.

Leading the cast are Gallagher Jr. (Spring Awakening) as Mate, Stark Sands (Kinky Boots) as Big Brother, Adrian Blake Enscoe (Dickinson) as Little Brother, and Wayne Duvall (1984) as Captain, all reprising their performances from the musical's earlier mountings at Berkeley Repertory and Arena Stage.

The ensemble includes Josh Breckenridge, Hunter Brown, Matt DeAngelis, Cameron Johnson, Brandon Kalm, Rico LeBron, Michael J. Mainwaring, Orville Mendoza, Chase Peacock, Tyrone L. Robinson, David Rowen, and John Sygar. Swings John Michael Finley and Robert Pendilla round out the company.

Swept Away follows four survivors of an 1888 shipwreck off the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts. As they struggle to stay alive, they must question whether or not they can live with the consequences of their actions, and discover how tragedy can lead to forgiveness.

The stage creative team also includes Tony-winning set designer Rachel Hauck, Tony-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty, four-time Tony-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams, Tony-winning sound designer John Shivers, and casting directors Jim Carnahan, Jillian Cimini, and Alexandre Bleau.
