Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Joker: Folie á Deux, the highly anticipated movie musical sequel to the 2019 film Joker. Joaquin Phoenix stars in the title role alongside Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn—see the two dance in the trailer above to the Burt Bacharach-Hal David song “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
The film follows Phoenix's Joker, one of Batman's preeminent villains, and his love affair with Harley Quinn.
The full cast features Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, Harry Lawtey, Leigh Gill, and Sharon Washington. It is directed by Todd Phillips, who also produced the 2018 movie musical A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and directed by Bradley Cooper. The six-time-Grammy-winning Lady Gaga received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Shallow" from A Star Is Born.
Joker: Folie á Deux is currently scheduled to hit movie theatres October 4. While not much is known about the musical content of the film, Variety reported that the soundtrack features at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs, and has been described as “mostly a jukebox musical.”
