Vicki Lewis, whose Broadway credits include Anastasia, Chicago, and Damn Yankees, plays late opera diva Maria Callas in Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts' production of Terrence McNally's Tony-winning Master Class.
Directed by Lisa Peterson, the limited engagement officially opens June 29 following previews that began June 25 at the Sag Harbor, New York, venue. Performances continue through July 20.
Lewis (NewsRadio, Finding Nemo, Curb Your Enthusiasm) is joined by Stella Kim (Miss Saigon) as Sophie De Palma, Olivia Hernandez (Days of Wine and Roses) as Sharon Graham, Rodney Ingram (The Phantom of the Opera) as Anthony Candolino, Brett Ryback (Murder for Two) as Manny Weinstock, and Ben Rauch (Big Bang Theory) as The Stage Hand.
Callas' famed mentoring sessions at Juilliard are immortalized in the late McNally's Master Class, which opened on Broadway in 1995 and won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play for Zoe Caldwell, and Best Featured Actress in a Play for Audra McDonald. Caldwell, who played Callas, was succeeded by Tony winner Patti LuPone and Designing Women's Dixie Carter. Oscar winner Faye Dunaway starred in the national tour, and Tony winner Tyne Daly headed the cast of the 2011 Broadway revival.
The production also has music direction by Brett Ryback, scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Laura Bauer, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Sun Hee Kil, projection design by Yee Eun Nam, and production stage management by Melissa Sparks.
