Playbill has learned that the New York premiere of Robert Schenkkan’s political drama Building the Wall will now close June 4. The new work by the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning playwright of All the Way arrived Off-Broadway this spring following an acclaimed run in Los Angeles.
Building the Wall began previews May 12 at New World Stages, ahead of an official opening May 24. It was scheduled to play through July 9.
The new play, inspired by the current Trump administration, is a two-person political suspense thriller. Set in 2019, the story imagines an eerie future where the administration has carried out its campaign promise to round up and detain millions of immigrants.
James Badge Dale (The Departed) and Tamara Tunie (Julius Caesar) star in the Ari Edelson-helmed production.
