Red Bull Theater's Revelation Readings, a series of rarely produced classic plays and new works, will continue next month with a new imagining of The Imaginary Invalid by Molière.
The reading will be presented February 19 at Florence Gould Hall and will be simulcast online. The recording will subsequently be available on demand February 20–25.
Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher (The Government Inspector, The Alchemist) and directed by Jesse Berger, The Imaginary Invalid is produced in partnership with the French Institute Alliance Française. Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford and Drama League nominee Mark Linn-Baker will head the cast of the reading, which will also feature Jordan Boatman, Will Brill, Arnie Burton, Kelley Curran, Lorenzo Pisoni, and John Yi.
The Imaginary Invalid is one of Molière’s best-loved comedies, centering on a notorious hypochondriac and the criminals who prey on his fears to fatten their purse. Newly translated by Mirabelle Ordinaire, and adapted for Red Bull by Hatcher, The Imaginary Invalid satirizes doctors, lawyers, and would-be patients who take self-care to staggering levels of solipsism.
