Simon Russell Beale stars as Prospero in a new Stratford-Upon-Avon production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest that incorporates technology from the Intel corporation to conjure the play’s magical elements.

RSC artistic director Gregory Doran directs The Tempest, which is broadcast in cinemas starting January 11. Click here for screening info.

The stage production runs through January 21, 2017.

RSC has partnered with Intel and Imaginarium Studios to utilize digital technology to create an avatar for the supernatural figure of Ariel. Actor Mark Quartley, who plays Ariel, wears a motion capture suit, live on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stage. According to RSC, “this allows the movements of his ‘avatar’ Ariel to be projected on and around the stage, including flying and morphing into different versions of the spirit through the power of Intel technology.”
