There is nothing like live theatre, especially when supported by the strongest women the arts has to offer. In honor of Women’s History Month, Playbill would like to highlight the contributions of the women who made the 2023-2024 Broadway season possible.
Throughout history, women have continuously broken bounds in this male-dominated industry and this season was no different. Out of 39 shows that are opening in the 23–24 season, 16 are directed by women. This season sets a record for the highest number of women directors to date.
