The Martha Graham Dance Center has announced it will relocate to a new and expanded home in Times Square next January. 1501 Broadway will become the organization's headquarters as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, a move from its current spaces at the Westbeth Artists Housing Complex and St. Veronica's Church.

The new space will serve as the permanent home of the Martha Graham Center, which encompasses the Graham Company, School, Offices, and Resources, the latter of which oversees archiving and licensing. The space will also enable the Center to expand its educational programs.

Working with MBB Architects, the Center will construct a six-studio facility with dressing, reception, public, archival, and administrative support spaces. During construction, the Center will also continue to support the dance community and other performing arts groups, at times under a subsidized rental program.

“We are delighted to be establishing a new home for this historic company and school. The nearly $6 million capital budget is a terrific investment in the Center’s future as it supports programmatic plans that have long been held back by limited space,” Executive Director LaRue Allen said in a statement. "We expect significant school growth as the Graham organization continues to welcome students from around the world and expands its offerings to serve a greater number of children and teens.”

The building at 1501 Broadway originally functioned as rehearsal space for the Paramount Theater, and is currently unoccupied.
