Bert V. Royal ("Easy A") is writing the screenplay adaptation for 13, and Laurence Mark is producing. Mark most recently produced the film "Last Vegas" for CBS Films, and his last musical feature was the award-winning hit "Dreamgirls."

Bob Boyett, who produced 13 on stage, is also producing, and David Blackman is serving as executive producer. Vice president of production Mark Ross and creative executive Winnie Kemp are overseeing the project for CBS Films.

According to CBS Films, "The story revolves around a thirteen-year-old boy who moves from New York City, where he is the king of his class, to a small town in Indiana where his classmates look at him as if he's from another planet. Anxious to be popular, his scheme to win acceptance backfires and threatens to alienate his true friends."

Brown wrote the music and lyrics for 13 and will do the same for the film. Elish and Horn wrote the stage musical's book.

Brown, whose Honeymoon in Vegas is scheduled to bow on Broadway Nov. 18 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, received 2014 Tony Awards for the score and orchestrations of The Bridges of Madison County and is a Tony winner for Parade.

13 opened on Broadway Oct. 5, 2008, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, where it played 105 performances through Jan. 4, 2009.
