News Sydney Theatre Critics Pick the Best Shows of 2016 The 2016 Sydney Theatre Award nominations have been announced in Australia.

The 2016 Sydney Theatre Award nominations were announced in Australia, AussieTheatre.com reports. Among the productions to receive several nominations were Kip Williams’ staging of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, and productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Spring Awakening.

Williams, who took over the helm of Sydney Theatre Company in November and is the company’s youngest-ever artistic director, helmed a staging of Miller’s drama at the waterfront theatre in June. The show garnered five nominations, including Best Direction (Williams); Best Female Actor in a Leading Role (Matrix actor Robyn Nevin); Best Male Actor in a Leading Role (Mad Max’s John Howard); Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Eryn Jean Norvill); and Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Chris Ryan).

Luckiest Productions/Tinderbox Productions’ Little Shop of Horrors and ATYP’s Spring Awakening received 10 nominations each, including Best Production of a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical each.

The Sydney Theatre Awards are presented by a group of leading Australian theatre critics annually. The gala ceremony will take place January 23, 2017, at the Seymour Centre, according to AussieTheatre.com. Visit the website for the full list of nominations.
