Playbill’s Inside the Theatre captures the dazzling architecture and unseen details of the world’s most famous theatres, taking you inside all 40 of Broadway's currently operating houses.
Located in the heart of Times Square, The Marquis Theatre opened in 1986 as a modern high-tech theatre in the Marriott Marquis Hotel. With a raked orchestra floor, three separate aisles that offer optimal viewing from all seats, and a ceiling designed to hide lighting and sound equipment, the theatre was created to be ideal for the audience experience.
The Marquis Theatre is currently home to the Tony-nominated musical comedy Tootsie, which opened on Broadway April 23.
While audiences wait for Company to resume performances, revisit the Jacobs Theatre and get a closer look at the details you might miss before the show—plus a deep dive into the theatre's history.
