The Geffen Playhouse has announced complete casting for the West Coast premiere of Jen Silverman’s Witch, starring Golden Globe Award winner Maura Tierney (ER, The Affair). Previews begin August 20 in Los Angeles.

Marti Lyons will direct the season opener, which will officially open August 29. The play is inspired by William Rowley, Thomas Dekker, and John Ford’s Jacobean play The Witch of Edmonton.

The cast will also feature Brian George (Three Seasons, Stuff Happens) as Sir Arthur Banks, Ruy Iskandar (Macbeth, The Tempest) as Frank Thorney, Evan Jonigkeit (Sweetbitter, The Snow Geese) as Scratch, Vella Lovell (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Big Sick) as Winnifred, and Will Von Vogt (Significant Other, Angels in America), who replaces previously announced Simon Helberg in the role of Cuddy Banks.

In Witch, Tierney plays Elizabeth Sawyer, a local woman who is cast out of the village of Edmonton for being labeled a witch. When a charming devil arrives, tempting villagers to exchange their souls for their desires, Elizabeth’s soul is not so easily bought.

The production team includes scenic designer Dane Laffrey, costume designer Danae McQueen, lighting designer Keith Parham, choreographer Jessica Lee Keller, and fight choreographer Steve Rankin.
