Cabaret & Concert News See Who's Joining Chita Rivera in Chita: The Rhythm of My Life

The concert event will play Costa Mesa's Segerstrom Center for the Arts next month.

A single performance of Chita: The Rhythm of My Life will be presented December 11 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, California.

Three-time Tony honoree Chita Rivera will be joined by her daughter, Lisa Mordente, and George Dvorsky.

Rivera will recreate signature moments from her Broadway career, including tunes from West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Visit, and more. Attendees can expect to hear the work of John Kander and Fred Ebb, Leonard Bernstein, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, Jerry Herman, and Stephen Sondheim. The performers will be accompanied by Rivera's long-time trio.

Rivera's career is highlighted by starring roles in Bye Bye Birdie, The Rink (Tony Award), Chicago, Jerry’s Girls, Kiss of the Spider Woman (Tony Award), and the original Broadway casts of Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, Seventh Heaven, and Mr. Wonderful as well as tours of Born Yesterday; The Rose Tattoo; Call Me Madam; The Threepenny Opera; Sweet Charity; Kiss Me, Kate; Zorba; and Can-Can with The Rockettes. The triple threat was awarded The Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2009. She is also the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honor and a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre in 2018.

Dvorsky previously shared the stage with Rivera in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Anything Goes. His Broadway credits include the title role in The Scarlet Pimpernel, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Passion, Marilyn: An American Fable, and The Best Little Whore House in Texas. 

Mordente received a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for Marlowe and a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Crystal Mason in the original Broadway cast of Platinum. Her credits also include the role of Agnes in the national tour of Gypsy with Angela Lansbury and Rizzo in Grease and Anita in West Side Story, both at the Burt Reynolds Theatre.
