Casting is complete for the Geffen Playhouse's West Coast premiere of Paul Grellong's Power of Sail. Directed by Weyni Mengesha, previews will begin February 8 in the Gil Cates Theater prior to an official opening February 17.
Donna Simone Johnson (Broken Fences, Pang!) and Brandon Scott (Grey's Anatomy, This Is Us) will appear as Quinn Harris and Baxter Forrest respectively, joining a previously announced cast that includes Emmy and Tony winner Bryan Cranston (All the Way, Network) as Charles Nichols, Hugo Armstrong (Mysterious Circumstances, God of Carnage) as Frank Sullivan, Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy, Private Practice) as Amy Katz, Tedra Millan (Present Laughter, The Wolves) as Maggie Rosen, and Seth Numrich (Switzerland, Turn: Washington’s Spies) as Lucas Poole.
Cranston portrays Harvard professor Charles Nichols, who finds himself in hot water after inviting an incendiary white nationalist to speak at his annual symposium. His colleagues are concerned, his students are in revolt, but Charles is undeterred in his plot to expose and academically thrash his invited guest.
The production will have scenic design by Rachel Myers, costume design by Samantha C. Jones, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, original music and sound design by Jonathan Snipes, and dramaturgy by Mike Sablone. The production stage manager is J. Jason Daunter, the assistant stage manager is Lizzie Thompson, and casting is by Phyllis Schuringa.
