Will it be curtains for the school musical? Or will it be hats off to Hailey when she saves the day? If we know one thing about Hailey, it's that she's on it! In the new animated show from Disney+, Hailey's On It, the titular teen, played by Moana's Auli'i Cravalho, is on a mission to complete a list of fear-conquering tasks. But this isn't just any to-do list. Hailey's list has global consequences. Turns out, completing it is the first step to her saving the world. (See the show's trailer here.)
In the June 9 episode "The Show Must Go Wrong," the school musical goes off the rails when its star is injured mid-show. Hailey is going to have to overcome her fear of performing and step in to save the show. But let's first talk about the show. It's a musical about Cats. Sorry...(checks notes)...HATS. And it parodies quite a few Broadway favorites while singing the glories of haberdashery, like Hamilton, Annie, and Rent. Check out the clip above and see how many references you can spot.
Hailey's On It! also stars Manny Jacinto as Hailey's best friend and Gary Anthony Williams as an AI operating system from the future. The school musical episode features a couple of voices with Broadway credits, including current Tony nominee Julia Lester (Into the Woods) and Nik Dodani (Dear Evan Hansen).
The first two episodes of Hailey's On It drop on Disney+ June 9. "The Show Must Go Wrong" will then air on the Disney Channel June 17.
