The Phantom of the Opera star Sarah Brightman is looking to the heavens again, this time in a new mobile video game titled Love and Deepspace. Brightman sings—and named—the game's theme song, which in turn inspired the game's title. Watch the song's official music video above. The track is also available for streaming here.

Brightman has had a long association with space, whether it was losing her heart to a Starship Trooper early in her career or her real-life plans to journey to the International Space Station in 2015.

That last bit, which would have made her the first vocalist to make the journey into outer space, never materialized, with Brightman later telling Playbill the plans fizzled following a change of heart about the feasibility of the scheme. "I have really mixed feelings about the whole humans going to space thing," she said in 2021. "I learned a huge amount of it when I was in space training. I'm not sure that we're really that ready for it. We could send robots."

Brightman explains her take on the song in a video interview, sharing that her performance was initially inspired by the music, which she describes as "exud[ing] a mysterious and ethereal ambience ... tinged with a little bit of melancholy."

"To bring the song to life, I adopted the perspective of a cosmic observer, or you could say a wandering poet, infusing it with a sense of cosmic mystery and the notion of transcending the river of time," she explains. Watch the full interview below.

Love and Deepspace, now available to download for free on iOS and Android, is the latest installment of the Mr. Love series, inviting players to step into an immersive, sci-fi world for a chance at virtual love. Players take on the role of Deepspace Hunter, with a superpower called Evol that allows them to fight an onslaught of mysterious alien creatures.

Brightman, who starred in the original London productions of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera (along with the latter on Broadway), recently completed a Christmas tour. She's set to return to the stage later this year as Norma Desmond in a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard in Melbourne, Australia.
