Tony winner Santino Fontana will lead the cast of Red Bull Theater's upcoming benefit performance of the Off-Broadway rock musical Your Own Thing, set for December 12 at Peter Norton Symphony Space. Also newly joining the previously announced event is director Gabriel Barre.
Adapted from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night by Hal Hester and Danny Apolinar, Your Own Thing premiered at Off-Broadway's Orpheum Theater (current home to Stomp) in 1968, shortly after Hair made its debut down the street at the then-newly-built Public Theater. Both musicals would go on to become big hits of the rock musical genre, with Your Own Thing running for 933 performances before touring North America. Red Bull's one-night-only performance will feature a book adaptation by Donald Driver with addditional casting to be announced.
A 2019 Tony winner for his performance in Tootsie, Fontana has appeared on Broadway in Sunday in the Park With George, Billy Elliot, Brighton Beach Memoirs, A View From the Bridge, The Importance of Being Earnest, Cinderella, Act One, and Hello, Dolly!
