Additional casting has been revealed for Red Bull Theater's upcoming benefit performance of the seldom-produced rock musical Your Own Thing, which will be led by Tony winner Santino Fontana, as previously announced. Your Own Thing is a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
With Gabriel Barre at the helm, the event is set for December 12 at Peter Norton Symphony Space.
Newly joining the cast are Olivier winner Lesli Margherita (Zorro the Musical, Matilda the Musical), Simon Pearl (Les Misérables), Michael Pilato (American Idiot national tour), and Vaden Thurgood (Smokey Joe’s Café).
Adapted from Twelfth Night by Hal Hester and Danny Apolinar, Your Own Thing premiered at Off-Broadway's Orpheum Theater (current home to Stomp) in 1968, shortly after Hair made its debut down the street at the then-newly-built Public Theater. Both musicals would go on to become big hits of the rock musical genre, with Your Own Thing running for 933 performances before touring North America. In the years since, the success of Hair has all but eclipsed Your Own Thing's, with Red Bull's upcoming concert production a rare presentation of the seldom-produced work.
The evening will also feature the previously reported real-life siblings Eddie Cooper and Lilli
Cooper, who will star as twins Sebastian and Viola, and Jennifer
Sánchez. The event will also feature special appearances from Michael Cerveris, Robert
Cuccioli, Tovah Feldshuh, Richard Kind, Ken Page, Patrick Page, Estelle
Parsons, Jay O. Sanders, Mary Testa, John Douglas Thompson, and Bruce
Vilanch.
The benefit will feature a book adaptation by Donald Driver and music direction by Greg Pliska.
