Sanaz Toossi will star as Elham in her Pulitzer-winning play English at Massachusetts' Barrington Stage Company, with performances running September 27-October 15 on the Boyd-Quinson Stage. Opening night is October 15. The performance will be Toossi's first acting role.
Toossi will be surrounded by alum from the work's previous productions. From the 2022 Off-Broadway company, Pooya Mohseni will play Roya. From the 2023 production at Washington, D.C.'s Studio Theatre, Narges Kalogli will play Goli and Nazanin Nour will play Marjan. Babak Tafti, who was part of the play's development, will play Omid.
Knud Adams will direct the Barrington run after staging the work's Off-Broadway and D.C. productions. “From Zoom readings to the Atlantic mainstage, from The Obies to The Pulitzer, English is a story that has moved and inspired thousands, and I'm honored to share it again at Barrington Stage Company this fall," says Adams in a statement.
The 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner, English follows four students meeting regularly in an Iran classroom to prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language proficiency exam. The 2022 Off-Broadway run won Best Play Lucille Lortel and Obie Awards.
