Steve Tomkins directs the production that runs through Oct. 21 prior to an Oct. 26-Nov. 18 run in Everett, WA. Tim Symons is the music director, and Daniel Cruz is choeographer.
Big River has a book by William Hauptman and music and lyrics by Roger Miller. The 1985 Broadway production won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The Village production features several cast members performing musical instruments on stage. Music director Symons leads a six-piece band. The orchestrations have been enhanced to bring out the flair of Miller's country score.
Hicks (The Scottsboro Boys, Jaqcues Brel..., "Grimm") portrays Jim, with Scholz as Huck Finn. The cast also features Richard Gray (The King), Greg McCormick Allen (The Duke), David Anthony Lewis (Pap), Taylor Niemeyer (Mary Jane), John David Scott (Tom Sawyer), Stacie Pinkney Calkins (Alice), Ben Wynant (Jo Harper), Matt Wade (Simon), Cheryl Massey-Peters (Widow Douglas), Jayne Muirhead (Miss Watson), Claudine Mboligikpelani Nako (Alice’s Daughter) and John Patrick Lowrie (Mark Twain). The ensemble players include Indeah Thomaier, Ekello Harrid Jr., Marq Johnson, BoJohn Diciple, Gabriel Corey, Josh Krupke, Lindsey Larson and Jessica Low.
Big River has scenic design by Scott Fyfe, lighting design by Tom Sturge, costume design by Melanie Taylor Burgess and sound design by Brent Warwick.
