Former National Alliance for Musical Theatre executive director Kathy Evans created the retreat, which welcomed its first group of writers during summer 2011.
Nine separate one-week residencies will be open to different teams/writers June 26-Aug. 28. There is a $25 application fee. The submission deadline is Feb. 19. Writers may submit musicals at any stage of development, as long as the submission has not been published or licensed.
Selected writers pay nothing and get a $400 stipend during their stay. All expenses are covered, including travel costs up to $750 per writer. Writers with children or other caregiving responsibilities are eligible and, if they are selected, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will work with them to accommodate their housing needs.
The retreat does not claim any stake in future royalties from participating musicals.
A panel of industry professionals aids in the selection process.
