Remembering Marlon Brando, Born 91 Years Ago | Playbill

News Remembering Marlon Brando, Born 91 Years Ago Charismatic leading man Marlon Brando spent most of his career in Hollywood, making films like "The Godfather, The Wild One and "On the Waterfront." But Brando, who was born April 3, 1924, began his career on Broadway at age 20 in I Remember Mama, and appeared in six Broadway shows before his last, the classic A Streetcar Named Desire (1947), lofted him to stardom.

In Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, Brando played Stanley Kowalski, a crude, brutal man very much at odds with his delicate sister-in-law, Blanche DuBois who comes to live with him. Here is a scene from the 1951 film version of Streetcar, directed by Elia Kazan, who also staged the play on Broadway.

In this scene, Stanley meets Blanche for the first time.
