R.E.D. Hat Fight Club, an irreverent queer musical parody, will receive a world premiere concert staging May 14 at Green Room 42.
The show, written by Jonathan Larson Grant winner Joel B. New, centers on a milliner who is fired on her 50th birthday. When she suddenly falls in love with a mysterious stranger, she spirals into an underground fight club where it is up to her to save the world.
The Red Hat Society is a real international social organization that brings together women over 50 to encourage aging in a playful manner surrounded by community—and of course bedecked in red, often sparkly, hats. The musical is in no way endorsed or affiliated with the Red Hat Society.
R.E.D. Hat Fight Club will star Lydia Gaston, Renee Claire Bergeron, Tari Kelly, Wendy Makkena, Charles Sanchez, and Jill Melanie Wirth. The concert is directed by Katharine Pettit, and will feature David Fraley as music director.
