An expanded version of Broadway press agent Susan L. Schulman's acclaimed memoir, Backstage Pass to Broadway, is now available from Goodreads Press. To celebrate the release, she will be joined by reporter and theatre critic Peter Marks for a discussion and signing at the Arthur Seelen Theatre at the Drama Book Shop.
The event will take place September 24 at 5 PM.
The second edition, which is subtitled "MORE True Tales from a Theatre Press Agent," includes several new chapters, expanded stories, and additional never-before-seen photos from Schulman's personal collection.
Schulman handled the publicity for Broadway's Dream, Dancin', Sly Fox, State Fair, Applause, Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, Scapino, Death and the Maiden, and Requiem for a Heavyweight. In Backstage Pass to Broadway, she shares her adventures working with Mary Martin, George C. Scott, Lauren Bacall, Yul Brynner, Robert Redford, David Merrick, Bob Fosse, Raul Julia, Zero Mostel, Vanessa Redgrave, Henry Winkler, Lesley Ann Warren, Katharine Hepburn, Glenn Close, Mike Nichols, Diana Ross, and more. She also explains what a theatrical press agent does, how she does it, and how theatre promotion has changed.
Backstage Pass to Broadway is currently available in paperback and e-book. The paperback is also available at BackstagePasstoBroadway.com as well as at the Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street), Theatre Circle (268 West 44th Street), and at Byrd's Books in Bethel, Connecticut.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
