Broadway audiences have officially been going way down under at Hadestown for five years now—the Tony-winning musical celebrated its fifth anniversary April 17. See Anaïs Mitchell, Rachel Chavkin, and Hadestown company members of past and present commemorate the milestone with a special performance in the gallery below.

Singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell’s folk- and jazz-infused musical layers the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with that of Hades and Persephone, intertwining the actions—and consequences—of gods and mortals. Hadestown originally began as a theatrical concert performed by Mitchell.
